Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us that God “has put eternity into man’s heart.” This yearning is no accident; it reflects our design as image-bearers of God (Genesis 1:27). Yet in our fallen state, we often seek transcendence in created things rather than the Creator. AI, for all its wonder, is just the latest example of this misplaced hope.
The Human Condition: Misplaced Worship
Scripture diagnoses the root of our problem: we are prone to idolatry. Romans 1:21-23 declares, “For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.”

1. Recognize AI as a Tool, Not a God
AI can enhance productivity, improve healthcare, and assist in education. These are good uses of technology. But we must resist the temptation to place ultimate trust in it. Psalm 115:4-8 warns that those who trust in idols “become like them.” Let us instead trust in the living God.

3. Worship the Creator, Not Creation
Our ultimate worship belongs to God alone. Revelation 4:11 declares, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.” Let this truth guide our hearts as we engage with technological advancements.
The Gospel: True Transcendence
AI cannot save us from the deep brokenness of sin. It cannot reconcile us to God, and it cannot offer eternal life. Only Jesus Christ can do this. The gospel tells us that while we were hopelessly lost in sin, God sent His Son to live the perfect life we could not, die the death we deserved, and rise again to defeat sin and death (Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4).
Through faith in Jesus, we are forgiven, redeemed, and given new life. This is true transcendence—not through our own efforts or creations, but through the grace of God.
